Your Northern California Chapter will once again host two study groups for the 2017 exams!
If you think you may be interested in joining us, please read the description below. The health and retirement groups will meet on Wednesdays from 12 noon - 1pm: Health Group (Led by Donna Malliett, ISCEBS Fellow) March 22 – Topic 1 March 29 – Topic 2 April 5 – Topic 3 April 12 – Topic 4 To join, please email firstname.lastname@example.org by March 13th. Retirement Group (Led by Rick Ferguson, ISCEBS Fellow) April 19 – Topic 1 April 26 – Topic 2 May 3 – Topic 3 May 10 – Topic 4 To join, please email email@example.com by March 13th.
Each group will have a dial-in number and all sessions will be conducted via conference call. You may attend from anywhere with phone connectivity.
Here’s what you are agreeing to when signing up: each participant will prepare study notes related to an assigned portion of the reading materials and present the notes to the group when the topic is scheduled to be discussed. The participant’s notes will include a write-up on each of the Key Concepts related to the assigned reading.
For example, each Track has four topics with four or five readings each. If the Health Group has six participants, each participant will prepare study notes for two-thirds of one topic (that works out to defining about 10 Key Concepts once in addition to the weekly reading). If eight of us were to participate, each would prepare notes for half of one topic’s readings (7 to 8 Key Concepts).
Key Concepts—you remember those! We all know how these tests go. So, for example, if you are reading about the four ways in which something qualifies, that would make a good ALL EXCEPT test question—an additional study note on that would be appreciated. Sample study notes will be provided to the group.
Each participant in the group will be responsible for preparing his/her portion of the study notes and then presenting the notes as scheduled. Prior to the conference call, the presenting participant circulates copies of the study notes she/he has prepared. Then, the participant leads the discussion on the conference call.
If you are interested in joining us, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please indicate if you would like to join the health group, the retirement group, or both. Ideally, we’d like 8 participants in each group so each participant only needs to prepare one-half of one topic. If all 8 spots are not filled by Chapter members, we will welcome members from other chapters. In prior years we have had participants from Oregon, Iowa, Illinois, Washington, Idaho, and Texas.
If more than eight (8) are interested, we can form an additional group.
Once we have confirmed the final count for each group, we will divide up the topics.
